Joan Avedisian began her tenure at Phoenix House in 2017 when she held the Clinical Director position at Jay Street in Brooklyn.  She moved to Long Island City in 2018 to take on the roll of Program Director.

Joan has worked in all levels of addictions treatment throughout her career.  She began working in the field in a hospital-based rehabilitation program at Weill-Cornell Medical Center.  At Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, Joan was a Program Administrator in their inpatient rehabilitation and detoxification programs.  She was given a Community Service Award for helping to rebuild and fortify these community-based programs.  On to outpatient addictions treatment, at the height of the opioid epidemic Joan worked in an opioid treatment program in the South Bronx for the Montefiore Hospital system.

Joan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  She earned her Master’s Degree from New York University.  Joan has specialized training in varied treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Enhancement, and Mindfulness-based Relapse Prevention.
