Phoenix House Mid-Atlantic’s 18th Annual Celebration of Recovery offered past and current clients an opportunity to recognize and celebrate their recovery with a meal and client-centered entertainment.
Students of Phoenix House Academy in Westchester spent a cold winter’s night delivering warm treats and bonding with youth ministry teens from the Church of the Holy Name of Mary at their annual Sleep Out for the Homeless.
Even though our culture is more accepting of LGBT youth than it used to be, LGBT youth still face higher rates of homelessness, substance abuse, depression, and suicidal thoughts.
At the 2013 Adolescent Symposium of Texas, De’An Olson–Program Director of Phoenix Houses of Texas’s Judge John C. Creuzot Judicial Treatment Center–spoke about how LGBT status affects substance abuse and homelessness among youth.
“What I’ve learned is that if you’re struggling with addiction, you have to want help first. I got the help I needed and that’s why I’m doing so well. I want to show people by my example that treatment really does work.”
