D.H. came to New York from California to escape his drug use, but he soon went from “functional addiction” to rock bottom. Once his wife took his kids and left, he knew he had nothing left to lose.
“That’s when I took out the yellow pages,” explains D.H. “There I was, at 3AM, sprawled on my kitchen floor, calling up drug treatment centers. The folks at Phoenix House were the only ones who picked up the phone and listened.”
