Join #GivingTuesday: Tell A Person in Recovery You Care

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

Phoenix House is proud to join Giving Tuesday, a movement that aims to create a new national holiday dedicated to giving and volunteering.

On November 27, 2012, organizations across the country will support Giving Tuesday by sponsoring volunteer activities and other acts of kindness—and we hope you’ll participate.

Between now and Giving Tuesday, we’re asking our friends and supporters to write letters of encouragement to the men, women, and teens in our treatment programs.  Recovery is a difficult process, and we want our clients to know that we support them on their journeys. Here’s how you can join us:

  1. Download the letter template we’ve created by clicking here.
  2. Personalize your letter by sharing your recovery story, the story of a loved one, an inspirational quote, or just a general message of encouragement.
  3. Email your completed letter to  If you’d like your letter to be sent to a client in one of our specialty programs (the Phoenix House Academies for teens, our Mother and Child programs, or our Military Services program), feel free to let us know.

On Giving Tuesday, November 27, our counselors will distribute each letter to someone in our treatment programs.  Check back here after Giving  Tuesday to find out how our clients responded.  We’re confident that your letters will brighten their days.  Please join us!  This small act of kindness can make a BIG difference.

If you or a loved one needs help for substance abuse, call us today at 1 888 671 9392 or send us an email.

I found your site too late to participate. However, I think that this really should be done *every* Tuesday. It’s merely a suggestion (coming from an ex-junkie) as I – and anyone who knows, intimately, the anguish and agony of addiction – am someone who would have benefited greatly from this type of positive input and feedback.

This is a wonderful program. Blessings.
