Smiling Faces at the AA Spring Picnic

Smiling Faces at the AA Spring Picnic

Women at the Residential Program at the Nancy C. and Raymond E. Murray Unit recently attended Alcoholics Anonymous’ Spring Picnic. A day filled with sober fun provided the women with the opportunity to gain insights into how living sober can bring lasting happiness and create a healthy life in full recovery and the importance of supportive friends and sponsors.

An atmosphere of cordiality and camaraderie filled the air as the women entered the park. With activities that promoted teamwork, individuality, and unity, the women were able to let go of struggles and enjoy a warm, sunny Florida day. As one woman described, “I have never been to a lake or done any activity that did not involve drinking alcohol. It is so enjoyable and motivating to live in sobriety today, gaining friends and lifelong memories. I will cherish this day and I’m thankful for this opportunity provided to me by Phoenix House.”

Phoenix House Florida provides substance abuse rehabilitation for adolescents at the Derek Jeter Center in Tampa and at Phoenix House Outpatient Services in Brandon. Adults also receive outpatient counseling at the Tampa and Brandon facilities. The Phoenix House Residential Program in Citra provides residential rehabilitation for adults whose substance abuse is advanced or complicated by mental health issues, with separate, gender-specific services for women at the Nancy C. and Raymond E. Murray Unit. Our newest program, offering Outpatient Services in Hyde Park in collaboration with The Centre for Women, helps adults and families build healthy, productive futures as they reclaim their lives from addiction.
