USPO DC Awarded Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic Three New Contracts

Saturday, October 20th, 2012

Washington DCPhoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic is pleased to announce that we were recently awarded three contracts by the D.C. Probation Office.

This month, PHMA started providing Non-Medical Detoxification for offenders/defendants along with the residential substance abuse treatment services it already offers at our Phoenix Program (for men 18 years old and older); at our Demeter House (for women 18 years and older) and at our Spanish-language track within the Phoenix Program for USPO DC clients.

Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic also started providing outpatient substance abuse treatment services for adult men and women at the U.S.probation Office.

The agency has substantial experience serving individuals who were criminal justice- involved, and we have served defendants/offenders referred from the D.C. Probation Office for over a decade. Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic staff are highly familiar with the unique needs of criminal justice-involved individuals. Our program staff regularly help clients meet appointments with probation and parole officers and arrange for court appearances. They are knowledgeable about the challenges that defendants/offenders face in treatment and recovery as well as the barriers they often face in obtaining employment. Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic has developed special interventions for this population, such as our New Birth Group at our Phoenix Program, in which clients who have experienced significant periods of incarceration can explore how that experience has affected their thinking and behaviors, and how it relates to recovery.

These contracts confirm our expertise in the substance abuse field, strengthen the agency’s relationships with the local community, and Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic’s capacity to help an increasing portion of the population that is struggling with addiction.
