The Phoenix Houses of Mid-Atlantic Alumni Association will be hosting a marathon meeting on Christmas Day from 9am to 10pm. After the success of the first marathon meeting on Thanksgiving Day, the Alumni association at Mid-Atlantic is planning to have another event for Christmas.
During the day, clients of the Phoenix, Nuevo Dia, and Boys Recovery Lodge programs will participate in a Secret Santa gift exchange and will have a chance to talk and spend some time with our alumni. Family will be allowed to visit the clients for a few hours, and brunch and Christmas dinner will be served. As clients may face holiday blues during this time of the year, special therapy group sessions will be held throughout the day to help them overcome it.
The Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic Alumni Association is committed to fighting the negative connotations associated with addiction, and to advancing the promises and possibilities that recovery represents. These efforts include encouraging recovering persons to share their stories, mobilizing communities and businesses, and advocating before legislatures and governmental bodies for assistance in providing funding, support and access to affordable treatment for people plagued by the disease of substance abuse and addiction. The Association helps alumni to establish valuable connections, and gives them the opportunity to talk about employment and other relevant issues through drug and alcohol-free social occasions.
Events like this help our clients in recovery during the holiday season, when they might need to cope with the added stress of being away from their families and friends while trying to build a new way of life.
