life project actors perform short playsIn late April, audiences were treated to powerful performances of the “The Life Project,” the latest in a series of original pieces written and performed by the clients of Phoenix House Residential Program in Long Island City with students and faculty from the Outreach Division of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. The work consisted of 17 short skits on themes of life and loss that were consistently joyous, moving, and provocative.  Audiences of  fellow clients, staff, board members, and friends of the Studio reacted enthusiastically to each of three productions,  held at the client’s treatment facility in Long Island City, Phoenix House Career Academy, and the Stella Adler Studio in Manhattan. At the conclusion of the final show, clients and actors hosted a Q&A session, sharing  stories of the camaraderie, creativity, and personal growth they gained while working on this unique collaboration.

The Stella Adler Studio’s philosophy of theater is similar to Phoenix House’s treatment philosophy – stressing the importance of community and giving back. We are grateful for the opportunities the Studio has provided to our clients during this partnership, as they promote a healthy, therapeutic outlet throughout recovery.
