LaMel, a client of Phoenix House Career Academy men’s residential program, is an avid runner who participates in many marathons and major races around New York City through New York Road Runners. He has finished strong at more than six competitions in the past year, including the New York Marathon, Run The River 5k, Run As One, Kidney Foundation, and the Brooklyn Half-Marathon. LaMel, who has a driving desire to continue to compete, says running enhances healthy recovery and gives him a natural high. He adds that longer runs beyond 5k’s bring him additional peace and exhilaration. Seeing LaMel’s passing interest in running and volunteering blossomed into a full-blown hobby has been an inspiration to many. We are very proud of LaMel’s accomplishments and applaud his tenacity.
