Run! Walk! Ride! Was a Hit in Rhode Island!

Saturday, August 1st, 2015

hurdle1It was a perfect day for healthy outdoor fun as hundreds gathered at Phoenix House Exeter Campus in Rhode Island for the seventh annual Run! Walk! Ride!—for the Health of It! The warm, sunny weather enticed runners, walkers, and bikers to hit the road, and the addition of an obstacle course this year provided an extra dash of healthy competition and challenge.

In addition to the outdoor activities, yoga classes inside the gym offered more soothing pursuits, while a number of wellness providers manned information booths at Fit for Recovery!, a health and fitness fair.  An old-fashioned barbecue lunch with live music refreshed the hungry participants, and a raffle and live auction added an extra note of excitement as the bidders vied for great prizes.

Besides offering an opportunity for healthy outdoor activity, Run! Walk! Ride! had a serious purpose. With the generous contributions of our sponsors and participants, the event raised much-needed funds in support of Phoenix House’s Rhode Island programs. These include medically monitored detoxification and clinical support services, comprehensive residential care for adult men and women, residential treatment with academic tutoring for teenage boys, outpatient services, and recovery housing for those in the early stages of recovery.

Sponsors of the event included W.B. Mason; Ursillo, Teitz & Ritch, Ltd.; AdCare Hospital; Cool Air Creations; PrintCraft; The Sentinel Group; NBC10; Stop & Shop; and FGX International.
