Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic will be an exhibitor at the 2013 VSIAS (Virginia Summer Institute of Addiction Studies) from July 15th to July 17th at the Williamsburg Hotel and Conference Center soon to become Doubletree by Hilton Williamsburg, in Historical Williamsburg, Virginia.
This will be the 11th year of the Virginia Summer Institute and the theme will be “Concepts of Addiction Treatment: Untangling the Knot”. As new challenges face Virginia, such as reduced revenue, Health Care Reform requirements, Credentialing and Licensure requirements, and new terminology that will evolve from the DSM V, topics that address the dynamics of these challenges will be available for participants over the course of three days. Other topics include prescription-assisted recovery, accountability within traditional peer supported recovery, neurological aspects of addiction/recovery, Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT). Break out sessions will be available, which address non-traditional substance abuse treatment, sexual addiction, motivational interviewing, ethics, treating tobacco dependence, tech support in recovery, and protecting your data in today’s digital environment. All sessions will give consideration to both substance use and related disorders. Tracks will also be designated as Intermediate, Advanced, or Supervisor/Manager level based on the target audience.
VSIAS is an education provider for a number of credentialing and academic organizations, including Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic. The Summer Institute is one of the principal forums for information, training and education for those working in the field of substance abuse. Attending VSIAS is a great opportunity to develop professionalism and be aware of what all the other professionals are seeing as challenges in the field and what resources are available to help meet these challenges.
