National Prevention Week, which took place May 12-18 this year, is a SAMHSA-supported observance that focuses on substance abuse and mental health awareness and advocacy. Phoenix House’s Hill A. Feinberg Academy in Dallas was proud to honor the week by providing drug and alcohol prevention presentations at various local schools and other community organizations. Our talented prevention staff members addressed entire student bodies and other groups about various topics surrounding addiction and substance abuse. They also provided statistics and questions for exciting group discussions.
These outreach events were tremendously successful in educating students and other program participants about they key threats they face every day, such as underage drinking, prescription drug abuse, illicit drug use, alcohol abuse, and suicide. Our staff taught attendees about high-risk behaviors as well as the importance of promoting mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being through healthy alternatives.
