Run! Walk! Ride!—For the Health of It!
Saturday, October 15, 2011, was a perfect autumn day in Rhode Island, and Phoenix House Exeter Center was the ideal location for the 2011 Phoenix House Run! Walk! Ride!—For the Health of It!, Rhode Island’s signature fundraising event.
With more than 150 people participating as runners, walkers, bikers, and cheering friends, the event was introduced by Master of Ceremonies Dan Jaehnig, Emmy Award-winning reporter and anchor at Rhode Island’s NBC 10 News. The athletes were rewarded for their efforts by an old-fashioned barbecue lunch with live music by The Recovery All Stars, while a bake sale provided extra fuel for tired muscles. Other activities included Fit for Recovery!, a health and wellness fair, at which a number of health and fitness practitioners provided informational materials and demonstrations of such practices as yoga, laughter yoga, and aerobic dance. The Rhode Island Blood Center’s mobile Blood Mobile also held a successful blood drive as part of the fair.
Corporate sponsors of Run! Walk! Ride! include MetLife, Nation Wide Construction Corp., Ursillo, Teitz & Ritch, Ltd., W.B. Mason Co., Inc., Accessorize Your Space, and FGX International; and numerous donations of in-kind goods and services provided materials for a raffle and silent auction.
