John Almeida served as President of the Rhode Island Council of Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependence (RICAODD) from 2006 to 2012. As president, John initiated several programs to aid the recovery of those affected by alcoholism and other drug dependence and successfully expanded sober-housing facilities throughout the State of Rhode Island. John served as a Police Officer in the City of East Providence, Rhode island, for 26 years, retiring in 1991. An active member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), John is responsible for having developed several AA programs in Fall River and Southeastern Massachusetts. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of Reflections, Inc., New Bedford, Massachusetts, and also worked at the Dr. John C. Corrigan Mental Health Center in Fall River, Massachusetts, where he played a leadership role in assisting patients struggling with alcoholism and substance abuse by coordinating AA and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings at that facility.
Alan Eland, Senior Vice President and COO of North America, GTECH and GPC, is responsible for overseeing all lottery operations in the U.S., Canada, Latin America and South America. He leads GTECH and GPC’s growth efforts in terms of providing technology and service solutions and operational-management support to clients throughout the Americas. He has more than 25 years of experience in the lottery industry and is a business leader with diverse operations and sales-management experience. He began his career at GTECH in 1985 and since that time has held various roles of increasing responsibility leading to his most recent position as Vice President and COO. Alan and his wife, Joanne, have three children–Zachary, 18, Jacob, 15 and Elaina, 9. Alan and Joanne are active in their local church and are volunteers and supporters of the schools that their children attend.
