Phoenix House Women’s Residential Program’s Bountiful Garden

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013

Phoenix House Women’s Residential Program clients took great care in planting and cultivating the garden on the grounds of their residential facility in Lake Ronkonkoma. Their hard work reaped enjoyment, surprise, and many compliments with a harvest of lovely, aromatic blooms and healthy veggies. Gardening is a wonderful hobby to make you pause and reflect on the beauty of nature–an activity very therapeutic during treatment, recovery and beyond for people of all ages. The benefits of a bountiful garden increase self-esteem, renew a sense of accomplishment, and bring joy to everybody participating and enjoying the harvest. Congratulations to the super gardeners of this season and for sharing.

What a great program for recovering addicts to be amongst other like minded people struggling with real life and how to cope with simple everyday tasks that other people easily can do. Turning to needles was something I used to do but overcame.
