Phoenix House New Clinical Director at the Statewide Conference on Co-Occurring Disorders

Phoenix House Academy's Director Elizabeth Salazar addresses 8th COD ConferenceDuring the Eight Annual Statewide Conference on Co-Occurring Disorders, Elizabeth Stanley-Salazar, Senior Vice-President and Clinical Director at Phoenix Houses of California gave a detailed presentation about Phoenix House at the session on “Engaging and Treating Transitional Age Youth with Co-Occurring Disorders.” The conference, subtitled, Treatment of Substance Use, Mental Health and Primary Care Disorders in the Era of  Health Reform, took place on October 26-27, 2011, in Burbank,California. It provided a forum for behavioral health professionals, public health administrators, and researchers working in the field of mental health and substance use disorders.

With an extensive, detailed, but easy to follow PowerPoint presentation, Ms. Salazar provided an overview of the population served by Phoenix House Academy, outlined our continuum of care, and focused on the most effective and important evidence-based practices used in Phoenix House residential and outpatient programs in Los Angeles, such as Seeking Safety for trauma, Strengthening Families to address relationships, Aggression Replacement Training for violence prevention, VOICES for gender-specific issues for girls, and ACC-ACRA to provide community-based counseling for at-risk youth and their families. The presentation was practice-oriented, so that the listeners could learn from our experience and find out what a “state-of-the-art” evidence-based program may look like.
