Phoenix House Military Services volunteers at Pack Out event

Clients and staff of Phoenix House Brentwood Campus Military Services Program rolled up their sleeves and joined over 200 neighbors in the community at the Veterans Activity Center (VAC) in Lake Ronkonkoma to support Boots On The Ground NY  at their annual Care Package Pack Out. They packed almost 1,000 care packages and boxes to send overseas to our soldiers. Volunteers joined workers or dropped off items such as toiletries, protein bars, ready-to-eat meals, snacks, Ziploc bags, boxes, packing tape, and other items, amounting to over 15,000 pounds of donations to sort through. Most of these packages are being shipped to Afghanistan; others will be sent to Iraq, Kuwait, Korea, Africa, and Japan, and to wounded service members in hospitals. Our clients mentioned how wonderful it was to participate and see everyone working together to put packages together. They remembered receiving similar packages when they served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Participating at the Pack Out was quite rewarding and healing for our clients; it was a privilege to support the brave men and women serving our country.
