Phoenix House Long Island City Center‘s All Stars are the Champions of the TCA Winter Basketball League in New York City! Our team made it all the way to the Championship finals, with an undefeated record for the entire season: 11-0 during the regular season and 3-0 in the playoff finals – an awesome record and very amazing League accomplishment!!
Our client athletes and coaches strive to “bring it” with a quality team on the boards each season with many participants from our New York City treatment facilities; last year’s Summer League Champions, The Spartans, hailed from Phoenix House Career Academy. In addition to their athletic prowess and skills, our players are learning to maintain and maximize composure, focus on executing detailed plays, boost leadership skills and chemistry with their peers. Team sports allow our clients to focus on sober recreational activities during their residential treatment stay for substance abuse problems and help emphasize healthy recovery habits. Our client athletes have excelled on the court during this league season in all facets of teamwork, unity, confidence, and communication. With the help of their counselors, the members of the All Stars are also concentrating on their individual treatment and recovery plans during their residential stay at Phoenix House Long Island City Center. Basketball and recovery go hand-in-hand, healthy recovery, focus and confidence help us all to become winners on the court of life. The TCA (Therapeutic Communities Association) Basketball League has been going strong for years & Phoenix House is truly proud to be participants. We extend our warmest congratulations to all of the All Stars and their Coach – also thanks to our fans rooting them on throughout those fourteen undefeated match-ups; such excitement all season! Rest up and we’ll be looking forward to next season…Yayyyy ALL STARS!!
