Phoenix House Long Island City Center Clients Enjoy Art Therapy

Saturday, February 15th, 2014

Clients from Phoenix House Long Island City Center Women’s and Men’s Residential Programs join forces twice a week for art therapy classes creating original works around a monthly theme. In addition to artwork, the group also presents original poetry and music. The group is guided by Glenda, a client with an arts and fashion background; she also proposes the monthly themes to the class. “I really enjoy leading the group and watching the projects come together. I’m inspired to create themes based on my feelings towards recovery.”

Our clients have a structured clinical schedule; these evening classes give them the opportunity to relax and let their ideas flow. The arts are a great outlet for our clients to express their inner self and creativity, which is beneficial to the process of healing and recovery. Creativity soothes the mind and adds focus to the work at hand. We are proud of these clients as they learn new skills and enhance their recovery.
