Phoenix House Hauppauge Center Clients’ Helping Hands Rebuild Homes on Long Island

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013

Phoenix House Hauppauge Center drug treatment clients help rebuild homes on Long Island devastated by the superstorms.

Since November, a group of clients from Phoenix House Hauppauge Center men’s program have been working every weekend rebuilding houses in the Lindenhurst area of  Long Island devastated by Superstorm Sandy. Cleanup, demolition and renovations at these homes are high priorities each week – even through winter’s snow and chilly conditions. Totally committed to this project, they chose to work here instead of using their time for visits or other activities during their treatment and recovery at the Hauppauge Center. To date, our clients have worked on thirty homes in the area, working with a local volunteer group, Lindy Manpower. This partnership helps homeowners regain their properties amidst the devastation and high costs of repairs. Giving back to the community during recovery is important to our clients as they lend their skills and talents to those less fortunate. Coming to the rescue of others is symbolic as our clients have learned to regain and rescue their lives from addiction. We warmly congratulate our volunteers on setting an excellent example in the community and for their dedication to their neighbors.
