Phoenix House Florida Offers New Options for Teens

Monday, February 9th, 2015

ClassroomAggression Replacement Therapy (ART) has been around for many years. Although not a new component in the behavioral healthcare field, ART training will soon be an integral part of Phoenix House Outpatient Services’ new program for adolescents throughout the Tampa Bay area. Currently, treatment for teens enrolled in the outpatient program focuses on “Living in Balance,” an evidence-based curriculum centered on substance use rehabilitation.

The new ART intervention will contribute to many more treatment successes throughout the community. Having an Aggression Replacement Therapy program offers an alternative to Juvenile Detention or community service and can provide lasting solutions. Many adolescents who are affected psychologically and emotionally by anger-related issues will be given the opportunity to learn new skills, boosting healthy individual expression.  Offered in three one-hour sessions each week over a ten-week period, the curriculum will concentrate on three main areas: Anger Control Therapy, Moral Reasoning, and Skill Streaming.

Phoenix House Florida provides substance use rehabilitation for adolescents at the Derek Jeter Center in Tampa and at Phoenix House Outpatient Services in Brandon. Adults also receive outpatient counseling at the Tampa and Brandon facilities. Our newest program, at The Centre for Women at Hyde Park, provides gender-specific care to women and teenaged girls. Phoenix House Citra provides residential treatment for men and women whose substance abuse is advanced or complicated by mental health issues. Our highly-skilled professional staff annually serves more than 1,000 men, women, and teens, safeguarding youth, strengthening families, and helping to build happier, healthier lives.
