On Wednesday, September 30, Phoenix House Florida celebrated the formal dedication of the Nancy C. and Raymond E. Murray Women’s Treatment Center in Citra. Patrick B. McEneaney, Senior Vice President and Executive Director, Phoenix House Florida, welcomed a crowd of nearly 100 guests at the entrance to this beautiful facility to remember the outstanding contributions of a couple whose generous support of Phoenix House Florida over so many years helped to build a solid foundation for our success.
Among the guests were three generations of the Murray family. Several close friends of the family, including Frederick E. Fisher and Whitfield Palmer, founders of Phoenix House Citra, were with us to dedicate the Murray Women’s Treatment Center. Michael Murray, a member of our Board, spoke lovingly of Nancy and Ray on behalf of the Murray family. Herb Goetschius, a member and former chairman of our Board of Directors, commended the Murrays for their philanthropic contributions and recalled their pride in Phoenix House’s work. In his remarks, Fred Fisher provided an overview of Phoenix House Citra’s history. The ceremony opened and closed with songs performed by Karen Simmons, a counselor at Citra. A reception and tours of the facility followed the dedication ceremony.
Located on the spacious campus of the Phoenix House Adult Residential Program in Citra, the Women’s Treatment Center has served more than 300 women since its opening early in 2011. With a completion rate of nearly 70 percent, the Center’s record of success stands far above the national average, due in large part to the commitment and highly skilled performance of our professional staff.
In addition to the gender-specific residential services provided at Citra, Phoenix House Florida offers outpatient care to adolescents at the Derek Jeter Center at Phoenix House located in Tampa, with adult outpatient treatment provided at the same location. A family program in Tampa’s Hyde Park neighborhood is offered in partnership with The Centre for Women, while teens and adults also receive outpatient care in nearby Brandon.
