Phoenix House Career Academy men's residential drug rehab residents gear up for a new season in their recreational baseball league

Meet the Phoenix House Career Academy Jay Street Bombers, newest contenders in the 2013 New York City TCA (Therapeutic Community Association) Baseball League. More than sixty clients of Phoenix House Career Academy’s men’s residential facility came out for tryouts upon announcement – only twenty made the team’s final roster. Our players are a tight knit group – confident, displaying great camaraderie as they work together at practice and exhibition games. The competition is fierce and our team is ready to take on all opponents – they are extremely hungry and prepared for the challenge. Team hitting is amazing; man for man, our Coach/Captain Luis says this roster is more experienced than the challengers and fully expects to make the post-season playoffs. Executing on-base opportunities are key to their success, here’s hoping there will be many in their future. The Bombers’ season is dedicated to the memory of Raymond G., whose sudden passing is still a shock to our team, clients, and staff. He led by example and was an excellent first baseman. Our client athletes are enjoying this healthy recreational activity, the rush of team sports, and the opportunity, whether on the field or in the stands spectating – all are teammates on the road to recovery. We are all very excited for regular season play and look forward to watching The Bombers hitting for the fences…Good luck, GO BOMBERS.
