Phoenix House Career Academy clients team up with Stella Adler Studio of Acting alums for The Father Project

Since October, clients of Phoenix House Career Academy have become eager and active participants at weekly evening acting workshops conducted by the Stella Adler School of Acting at our facility. They have practiced speech, movement, expression, and other facets of the acting techniques pioneered by the school since 1949. In addition to their Tuesday night sessions, considerable time was spent outside the classroom on assignments, improv, writing, research and daily exercises – refining their craft and creating an original body of work for a future performance, which grew to become “The Father Project.”

“The Father Project” was a collection of new original work developed by the clients of Phoenix House Career Academy from their acting workshops. For this performance, our clients performed on stage with alumni and current students from the conservatory program of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. The subject matter took on various levels – many of our client participants are fathers, and also drew upon memories and life-changing influences from their own fathers as they grew up. The months of hard work, assignments and workshops came full circle as they shared their work with an audience – the attendees included staff, friends and family of our clients invited to this special event.

The Stella Adler Outreach Division is committed to providing free training to those who would otherwise not receive it, and empowering young people through acting. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to have them as friends and partners in promoting a healthy, therapeutic outlet for our clients.
