Phoenix House AmeriCorps staff & volunteers kick off a new year of service

Phoenix House AmeriCorps staff and volunteers joined the summit of New York State AmeriCorps members kicking off a new year of volunteerism and service. The New York Commission on National and Community Service sponsors  this motivational event annually to rev up their members, discuss priorities, and honor their volunteers.

The AmeriCorps network of local, state, and national service programs engages more than 80,000 Americans each year. AmeriCorps members serve through more than 3,000 nonprofits, public agencies, and other community organizations. Phoenix House AmeriCorps volunteers covering the New York city area have participated at city park beautification efforts, volunteered at local food banks and soup kitchens, and assisted at food and clothing drives for recent hurricane victims. Our volunteers also help out at our substance abuse treatment facilities and on occasion, volunteer at sober recreational events with our clients. While working at Phoenix House, volunteers learn about substance abuse and alcohol treatment and prevention at our residential and outpatient facilities. Our volunteers are always at the ready to give back to the community and help others in need – here’s to another year of working hard and giving back!
