Students of Phoenix House Academy of Westchester let their creativity and talents flow on a massive project – to design, create, and paint giant murals covering the walls of the main room connecting the cafeteria, music studio, and auditorium of their residential treatment facility. They worked many months on this unique artwork that included themes of community, creativity, peace, and “the road of life.” Many of our students express an interest in both music and art, and in addition to the murals they created lyrics to accompany the imagery. Their artistry and commitment to this project demonstrates their heartfelt desire and capacity to express their unique outlook and life experiences. The arts are a great outlet during the process of healing and recovery. This gifted group of students in recovery are very proud of the success of this project and we are very fortunate to be able to enjoy their vibrant work on display at our Academy for years to come.
