Phoenix House Academy of LI drug rehab students volunteer at Animal Rescue Fund of East Hampton, NYA favorite activity for students of the Phoenix House Academy of Long Island combines responsibility, recreation and giving back to the community at their weekly visit to Project ARF in East Hampton. Students make their weekly rounds to assist their dedicated staff by performing various tasks to care for rescued canines at the shelter: walks and exercise, bathing and grooming, training drills with guard dogs – educational and beneficial for all participants. These visits are truly satisfying and uplifting for our clients; attending to them helps our clients focus on something outside of themselves, especially those rescued from sad or difficult situations prior to arriving at the shelter. The environment of love and healing extends to our student volunteers through their compassion and deeds in this role; in turn building their self-esteem and strengthening camaraderie as they work together as a team. Animal care is therapeutic and healing to the mind and body for many; animal-assisting therapy is an important aspect of addiction treatment. Our students truly love visiting the shelter to work with these animals in need.

The Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) of the Hamptons is the leading animal welfare organization on the east end of Long Island. ARF is a “no-kill” adoption center, dedicated to finding loving homes for pets, offering shelter and adoption services, medical care, spaying and neutering programs, community outreach and humane education.

Phoenix House Academy of Long Island, located on Long Island’s East End, serves adolescent males who are struggling with substance abuse. Our Academy model is designed to help young clients prepare for productive, self-sufficient, and drug-free lives. Residents complete treatment while taking part in the Academy’s fully accredited on-site academic program, which allows clients to catch up on their studies or earn credit toward their high school diplomas.
