Phoenix House Academy at Dublin, located in a serene country setting, provides substance abuse treatment and education to adolescents ages 13 to 18. The Academy strives to meet each youth’s needs by developing a treatment plan based on initial evaluations. Length of stay in the program depends on individual treatment needs. At Phoenix House Academy at Dublin, counselors and residents work together to create personal treatment plans that match solutions to the specific needs of the client and family. The Academy’s programs offer each resident a wide range of services, including: individual, group, and family therapy; training in sober living skills and sustaining recovery; drug and alcohol education; and positive and healthy recreational activities. Speaking of healthy recreational activities, one recent activity enjoyed by the clients was the first Field Day.
At the Field Day, clients split into two groups: the Green Machines and the Orange Ligers (Lions and Tigers). Before the Field Day, staff and clients took an online animal personality test and channeled their inner animal to participate in this full day of fun. Activities throughout the day included tug of war, three-legged races, and relays.
On this particular day, the teens learned important lessons about sportsmanship and teamwork. At Phoenix House we believe that learning to have fun in a drug- and alcohol-free environment is a major key toward long-term recovery.
