On July 13, Phoenix House Citra Center hosted Ohana, a gathering in celebration of recovery from addiction. At the Hawaiian-themed festivities, many smiling faces assembled to congratulate the men and women who had completed Citra’s residential treatment program. The event began with a screening of Change, an inspirational video produced at Citra Center and featuring photos and testimonies of program residents. There were many accounts of triumph over substance abuse and amazing before-and-after images. You can view the Change video below. Following the video, a resident counselor sang two compelling songs, which were greeted with a standing ovation.
Many of the guest speakers talked about hope, family, and triumph. “In Hawaiian, Ohana means family; family means no one gets left behind,” stated Lorraine Franciose, Campus Director of Phoenix House Citra Center. Following the speaking program, completion certificates and awards were distributed. After the ceremony, everyone convened in the “Castaway Café” for luau-style refreshments and conversation. Citra Center’s halls were filled with laughter and stories of recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.
