Music is widely-known to be a positive therapeutic outlet for those in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction. Recent visits from musicians and music industry professionals inspired our students at the Phoenix House Academy in Los Angeles.
On October 6, producer, writer, and director, LU on the Hooks, visited clients, along with a group of Hip-Hop and R&B musicians. The artists shared inspirational stories about their journeys and the struggles that they faced on their way to the top.
We were also very happy to welcome back distinguished music industry manager and producer, Steve Lobel, to the Academy. Steve has worked with iconic artists such as: RUN DMC, Fat Joe, Three 6 Mafia, Common, Easy-E, and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, to name but a few. This year, Steve was accompanied by a group of rappers including: Mann and Bizzy Bone (from Bone Thugs-n-Harmony). As always, our teens enjoyed musical performances and motivational presentations by the artists.
The visit was organized by Steve Lobel’s new project called WeWorking, which brings music and inspiration to nonprofit community-based organizations. Steve dedicates significant energy to this project, which also provides an arena for aspiring musicians to display their talents among other popular artists, celebrities, and fans.
We would like to thank the generous musicians who visited and shared their time with our teens. We would also like to thank Music Director of Phoenix House Academy in Los Angeles, John Morabito. John spends countless hours in the music studio with our clients and facilitates visits from producers and recording artists, so that they can share their personal success stories achieved without drugs or alcohol.
