“The Peace Project” is the newest in a series of original plays written and performed by the clients of Phoenix House Long Island City Center and students from the Outreach Division of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. Three performances were staged in December at Phoenix House Long Island City Center, Phoenix House Career Academy, and the Stella Adler Studio in Manhattan for clients, guests, staff, family, and friends. Thirteen original skits were performed by the actors focusing on the subject of peace. The performances were moving and provocative, and received enthusiastically by the audiences.
We are truly proud of our clients courageously participating in this group as they share their creativity and personal growth during residential treatment. The Stella Adler Studio’s theater philosophy is similar to Phoenix House’s treatment philosophy – stressing the importance of community and giving back. We are grateful for the opportunities The Studio has provided to our clients involved in this important partnership, as they teach and promote a healthy, therapeutic outlet during recovery.
Our Long Island City Center’s Women’s Program provides innovative substance abuse treatment services to female clients using evidenced-based practices. Our program offers an array of vital services and our staff is trained to meet the unique needs of women, including those who struggle with co-occurring mental health problems. Our Men’s Program provides services and substance abuse treatment, individual and group counseling, as well as evidence-based therapeutic interventions that address specific client needs, allowing clients to redefine who they are while addressing views on manhood/rites of passage. We also provide medical services and vocational support, as well as recreational programming.
