Come join us to ring in the New Year at the annual Polar Bear Plunge sponsored by The Seafood Shop, benefiting Phoenix House Academy on Long Island. “Polar Bears” will gather at Beach Lane in Wainscott at 2:00 PM on January 1, 2014 to plunge into the chilly ocean for a great cause. Since 1999, hundreds of participants have gathered for this East End tradition, organized by Seafood Shop owner Colin Mather. Phoenix House is grateful to participate.
“Polar Bears” and spectators can sign up for the event and make donations either in advance at The Seafood Shop or on the beach that day. For more information, please call 1 888 671 9392; donations can also be mailed to: The Seafood Shop, P.O. Box 246, Wainscott, NY 11975.
Following the fun in the surf, staff and students of Phoenix House Academy on Long Island will be answering questions about the Academy’s mission at The Seafood Shop, located at 356 Montauk Highway, in Wainscott. Refreshments will be served.
Phoenix House runs substance abuse treatment and prevention programs for adults and adolescents, including Phoenix House Academy on Long Island, an East Hampton program serving male teens struggling with drug and alcohol abuse. Our Academy model is designed to help young clients prepare for productive, self-sufficient, and substance-free lives. Residents complete treatment while taking part in the Academy’s fully accredited on-site academic program, allowing them to catch up on their studies or earn credit towards their high school diplomas.
