Phoenix House drug rehab clients participate in the Phoenix Rising Music Program in New York

Clients of the Phoenix House Men’s Residential Program in Long Island City welcomed a visit from the Phoenix Rising Music Program. The program’s mobile recording sessions capture the musical talents and original compositions of clients throughout New York. In this video, our client Ian talks about his songs, creative process, and the musical influences from his childhood. Ian has always had a passion for music, and the power of therapeutic expression truly enhances his creativity and recovery.

The Phoenix Rising Music Program, created by Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Kara DioGuardi, is an expressive arts therapy program that encourages our clients to express themselves through music.  Participation in the creative arts has been proven to increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety and depression, and aid the recovery process for young people who struggle with substance abuse and/or co-occurring mental health problems.
