Phoenix House Counselor Denzil JordanBet you didn’t know there’s a hidden brotherhood of budding cinephiles at Phoenix House Career Academy? Counselor Denzil Jordan, CASAC conducts a very successful activity on Saturdays at the facility. The “Saturday Seminar” introduces a film with a message and our residents are all in! Many classics and recent films with a message or inspiring theme are screened; many of these films may not have appealed to our guys if they were browsing the DVD aisles on their own…

“The clients look forward to watching a therapeutic movie that has substance, touches their hearts, their mind and their inner being. How do I know they are into a movie with substance? They are all still seated after 2pm, never look at the clock on the wall and they all stay to watch the movie in its entirety!” Denzil is an impassioned, thoughtful Counselor, carefully selecting the films he introduces to the residents of this class; group discussions are equally enthusiastic after the lights come up. A few of the films the class has enjoyed are: The Hurricane, To Sir With Love, Due Date, Things We Lost In The Fire, The Red Shoes, The Pursuit of Happyness, Marie Antoinette, Lean On Me, and The Philadelphia Story. Perhaps some of these films are your favorities or take a few of these recommendations for future viewing…Move over, Turner Classic Movies and Robert Osborne, we are fortunate to have Denzil to lead this very creative class!! Fabulous!!
