client shares poetry with music program

Some clients are eager to share their creativity during treatment and recovery with the Phoenix Rising Music Program, as it tours our facilities conducting mobile recording sessions. The Program’s sessions continue to capture the musical talents and original compositions of clients residing in Phoenix House’s locations throughout New York City and its boroughs. In this video from Phoenix House Long Island City Center, Henry talks about his poetry, journals, lessons learned, and how recovery has transformed him to regain a positive attitude and pursue a healthier lifestyle.

The Phoenix Rising Music Program is an expressive arts therapy program that encourages our clients to express themselves through music.  Participation in the creative arts has been proven to increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety and depression, and aid the recovery process for those struggling with substance abuse and/or co-occurring mental health problems.
