Underage alcohol use is a serious issue impacting communities across New York State. Alcohol abuse by teens under 21 is associated with the most common causes of death: suicides, homicides, and accidental deaths. Teens who start drinking before the age of 15 are more likely to develop alcohol dependence than those who begin drinking at 21. Further, more than 50 percent of stores in New York City sell alcohol to minors. This is the disturbing results of an investigation conducted last year, which sent underage decoys to visit local pharmacy, grocery, and liquor stores. Now the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has created this short video to highlight the harmful consequences and findings about underage drinking. Please join us in spreading the word about this important issue to help raise awareness.
