Gables Residential Volunteers at Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013

Gables Residential volunteer dayLast week, Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic was delighted to welcome a group of enthusiastic volunteers from Gables Residential, an award-winning real estate company.

Each year, Gables Residential picks a nation-wide company day to close its offices and work together to “volunteer their time for a worthy cause.” This year, the company chose to volunteer at Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic. When the company announced it would be volunteering its time to Phoenix House,  Jorgen Punda, Regional Vice President of Investments for Gables Residential, said, “The ultimate goal is to provide an improved environment for those who are there to get better.”

On May 9th, over 100 Gables Residential associates came to our location in Arlington, Virginia, to paint, clean and landscape for the day. The associates cleaned bathrooms, swept and mopped floors, worked during their breaks and stayed past quitting time to finish what they started. Jo Anne Gerald, environmental specialist at Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic, thanked Gables Residential for accomplishing in just a few hours what might have taken a few years to accomplish without them: “The level of commitment, energy and enthusiasm demonstrated by you and your team of volunteers was inspiring and sincerely appreciated.”

Other vendors also generously provided food, labor and supplies for the event. Papa John’s Pizza provided discounted pizzas, Rent Ready donated six cases of water, and Classic Concierge gave the group soda and water. Other home improvement companies—Sherwin Williams, HD Supply, Wildwood Construction, Fincor Construction, and Greenscapes—generously donated paint, supplies, tools, wainscoting, trim, mulch and flowers.

Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic thanks all of the people who made this day a success by cheerfully donating their labor, supplies and their time!
