It is nice to get gifts and even nicer to thank for them. On September 30, 2012, students from Phoenix House Academy of Los Angeles assisted by their counselors and Crystal Green, Vice President for Insurance Initiatives and Admissions, paid a visit to the Friendship Baptist Church in Pasadena.
The Church has donated new, stylish comforters and sheet sets for the new Phoenix House Short Stay Program at the Academy and the teens came to thank the Church for support expressed in this donation. They also spoke about dealing with their substance abuse and other issues, and about the services that they have received at Phoenix House, helping them fix their family relationships, make up lost credits at school, plan their careers, and create long-term goals.
Ms. Green made a presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to Pastor Lucious W. Smith and the Leadership of the Friendship Baptist Church and to Barbara Turner, Board of Missions Director of the Friendship Baptist Church. After the event, Ms. Turner made the following comment:
“It was absolutely awe inspiring to hear from the young people of Phoenix House. The work that the administrators and staff do there is a living testimony to God’s desire that we love one another. A scripture that reflects this foundational Christian belief is found in Ecclesiastes 4: 9-10 (NIV) Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! At Friendship Baptist Church we seek each day to be Doers of the word. One part of our Christian mission is to enlarge our territory however and wherever God leads us. Phoenix House is certainly included in our territory. . . Keep up the good work!”
