Over 130 participants and exhibitors, as well as two sponsors, NAADAC and Tranquility Woods, attended Phoenix House Mid-Atlantic‘s (PHMA) first ever event that focused on helping participants gain a deeper understanding of the state of addiction and recovery in this country—and what we can do to improve it moving forward.
PHMA hosted the Phoenix House Mid-Atlantic Recovery Summit: A Call to Action: The Way Forward on February 27 at the Holiday Inn Arlington at Ballston. Scheduled to become a regular event, it featured keynote speeches by two of our nation’s most respected experts in the field of addiction treatment, Dr. David Mee-Lee and Dr. Andrew Kolodny. Dr. Mee-Lee provided clinical insight into the new American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria and Dr. Kolodny moderated a roundtable discussion focused on the policy aspects and epidemic proportions of today’s addiction crisis.
“We are grateful that Dr. Mee-Lee and Dr. Kolodny joined us and provided expert insight to our event,” said Deborah Simpson Taylor, R.N., President & CEO of Phoenix House Mid‐Atlantic. “The Summit provided an opportunity to showcase cutting-edge clinical training, as well as bring together local prominent guest speakers from organizations such as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Washington/Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, the Arlington County Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration for a roundtable discussion of the current addiction crisis.”
