Clients and staff from our Phoenix House Brentwood Campus treatment programs rolled up their sleeves and eagerly celebrated Earth Day in the most giving way by volunteering to beautify the grounds of their facility. Our group from the Brentwood Community Residence, Men’s Adult Residential Program, Military Services Program, and Mental Health Community Residence gathered promptly with all their tools and new plants ready to work. Their tasks included cleaning and landscaping, preparing flower beds for new blooms, planting a new rose bush and two Japanese maple trees – all on a lovely spring day to appreciate nature. The entire team did a fantastic job working together and bonding beyond the usual daily clinical activities on a fun and exciting day. A lemonade stand was built by clients especially for the day and a barbecue followed the completion of the day’s work.
Gardening empowers our clients as they create a more beautiful environment, learn about nature, and increase plant life in their community. This special day of friendship and camaraderie allowed time for creative reflection and to appreciate nature. Our clients can also utilize these skills on the road to recovery, as well as enjoy gardening as a calming hobby. We are proud of their initiative and inspired by their enthusiasm.
