The Phoenix House Career Academy is proud to be the location for the DUMBO/Vinegar Hill CSA share market. We truly enjoy opening our doors in the evening to our neighbors to pick up their vegetables and other farm fresh offerings. The share is held every three weeks in the winter, weekly in the summer. As our lobby bustles with neighborhood residents, the bountiful crates of fresh vegetables reinforce our emphasis of the importance of healthy foods and lifestyle to the clients and staff of the Career Academy. The varieties on display give us all new ideas to enjoy fresh veggies in our meals – great stuff!
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) allows shoppers to buy organic vegetables direct from a local farmer. Prior to harvest, members join and pre-pay to buy fresh, locally grown vegetables. This amazing variety of produce at the Share comes from Sang Lee Farms of Peconic, NY. The DUMBO/Vinegar Hill CSA also accepts donations to fund vegetable shares to help low-income families. We encourage our “locals” to visit their site for information on joining the share; “out of towners” can also check out many great recipes, or learn more about sustainable agriculture. Healthy nutritional habits are key to a healthy mind, body and soul!
