Phoenix House Resident with Horse

At Phoenix House Academy at Dublin, clients have had the opportunity to participate in horseback riding lessons thanks to the generosity of Touchstone Farm in Temple, NH.  The farm provides the kids with six weeks of horseback riding lessons and an opportunity to learn how to groom and care for the horses.

Orion, one of the clients at Dublin, stated, “Horseback riding gives me a sense of accomplishment and makes me feel very regal.  I love my horse, Gretzky, and I am grateful and happy when I have a chance to ride.”

Simple principles of trust and honesty are often lost to addiction.  Horses are very perceptive animals and they will not respond to commands without a level of trust. They also provide direct and honest feedback that in return is only earned by providing honesty to the horse. These are simple concepts, but their effectiveness is immeasurable in dealing with people.
