Red and White Christmas treeAs the holidays approach, our California Phoenix House programs are celebrating the seasons in many wonderful ways!  At Phoenix House Academy of Los Angeles in Lake View Terrace, staff, teens and their families and guests have spent the past few weeks gathering together for different events.  On December 9th, clients and their families came together for Tamale Day, making tamales together for the holiday season.  Tamale Day was followed by a Tree Trimming Ceremony, and residents celebrated the following Sunday with a Family Tea & Gift Wrapping/Stocking Stuffer event.  Los Angeles students and their families are looking forward to the upcoming Christmas Day Visits and New Year’s Day Visits as well.

In our Orange County and San Diego programs, clients are enjoying participating in a variety of voluntary holiday activities.  Orange County residents are celebrating by making ornaments out of dough for one of the Christmas trees; group caroling in the late afternoon on Christmas Eve; and participating in a homemade Secret Santa exchange, where clients draw names and give their Secret Santa something they can make from Arts and Crafts.  On Christmas Eve, clients, family and guests will have a family gift exchange and enjoy dessert together, and on Christmas Day, staff will distribute stuffed stockings to clients, followed by a special lunch and games in the afternoon.  In San Diego, adolescents, families and staff are celebrating the season with several outings and residential activities this month, including ornament making, horseback riding, family holiday tea, dining hall decorations and festive holiday parties.

This time of year brings us excitement and cheer, delicious meals with loved ones, and reminds us of how fortunate we are to have the love and support of family and friends.  For Phoenix House clients and their families who struggle for resources,  the generosity of our local community partners offer support to those less fortunate, so that every Phoenix House client in treatment has something to celebrate during the holiday season.  Please join us in thanking our staff, supporters, and local communities for the love and support shown to Phoenix House clients throughout the season!
