Two FlappersOn January 24, the Phoenix House Residential Program at Citra Center was filled with an atmosphere of hope and enthusiasm at our Celebration of Recovery. This year’s theme of the Roaring Twenties sparked the imaginations of all of our clients. The Celebration of Recovery is a semiannual event that recognizes the successful completion of our clients’ stay in treatment. Residents and staff were joined by family members and alumni from across Florida.  Looking across the room, one could see clients, alumni, staff, and guests dressed to the nines, with smiles and laughter reflecting warmth and inspiration.  Some residents even dressed in flapper outfits and zoot suits to add to the atmosphere and theme of our celebration.

Group of WomenHighlighting the success of musical therapy provided at our Citra location, several musical performances left the audience exhilarated and inspired. Among these, Nate Daniels brought down the house with an original song entitled “Changin’ My Life.” Greg Freitag (guitar), Miguel Perez (bass guitar), Chance Drake (drums), and Neil Stefani (vocals) played another original song, “Rise from the Ashes.”

Guest speaker Blaine Whitt, founder and president of Xtreme Soulutions, gave an encouraging and stimulating speech that provided clients and alumni with useful advice on how to live fully in recovery. Mr. Whitt shared his story of a life of addiction and the triumph of living more than 20 years in freedom from the bondage of alcoholism.

The event’s high point came as alumna Crystal Jewel shared heartrending testimony about her life in addiction.  She told the guests and clients how her conviction and faith have helped her to always reflect on how far she has come, and she credited Phoenix House as the foundation for her life in recovery.

Four LadiesStaff and residents described the celebration as the high point of the year, providing lasting memories for all.
