Charlie Sheen Checks Into Rehab After Hospitalization

Monday, January 31st, 2011

On January 28, Charlie Sheen voluntarily entered treatment for substance abuse after being rushed to a hospital with “severe abdominal pains.” Phoenix House’s Chief Clinical Officer Deni Carise appeared on Good Morning America to applaud Sheen’s return to treatment and discuss the steps he needs to take to gain sobriety. Carise pinpoints Sheen as “A functional addict – somebody who can go to work and pay the bills but still use drugs or alcohol in a way that is really harmful for them.” But she has hope for his recovery: “I’m so glad he’s in treatment. The fact that his employer is supportive, and his colleagues, are two very important things.”
