Boo! A Spooky Time at Derek Jeter Center!

Tuesday, November 4th, 2014

Halloween at Phoenix House Florida was a frightfully good time as our staff members planned a special surprise for our young clients in treatment for substance abuse. With scary decorations throughout Derek Jeter Center – and even scarier costumes on our staff – an exciting time was guaranteed for all. Clients were invited to go trick-or-treating from room to room at the Center, and there were plenty of goodies to satisfy the greediest of ghouls.

As much fun as the evening was, it served a very serious purpose: by keeping our youngsters off the streets on Halloween night, Phoenix House provided an enjoyable alternative to the temptations that might lie in wait outside.  The fact that Halloween 2014 fell on a Friday had raised concerns nationwide about the possibility of teens drinking and engaging in other risky behaviors. Offering this safe and enjoyable evening to our kids also reinforced one of Phoenix House’s primary goals: to help adolescents learn healthy, sober recreational skills and show them just how much fun they can have without alcohol or drugs. That’s a BOO-tiful thing!

Phoenix House Florida provides substance abuse rehabilitation for adolescents at the Brandon Outpatient Treatment Center and the Derek Jeter Center located in Tampa. Adults also receive outpatient counseling at both the Brandon and Tampa facilities. The Centre for Women at Hyde Park provides gender-specific care to women. Residential treatment is provided by Phoenix House Citra Center, serving both men and women whose substance abuse is advanced or complicated by mental health issues. Our highly-skilled professional staff annually serves more than 1,000 men, women, and teens – safeguarding youth, strengthening families, and helping to build happier, healthier lives.
