phoenix house clients work artists writers gameStaff and clients of Phoenix House Academy on Long Island volunteered at the 67th Annual Artists and Writers Charity Softball Game at Herrick Park in East Hampton on August 15. Our clients and staff helped with set-up on the field and concessions, and worked the booths serving food and refreshments to hundreds of attendees. Our Academy is one of the beneficiaries of this beloved annual tradition. Our staff volunteers also served at the pre-game party at LTV Studios in Wainscott the night before. We are very proud of their efforts and teamwork to ensure that everything was perfect for fans and players. Participants included celebrities from the world of journalism and entertainment, including former NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly as third-base umpire, Inside The Actors Studio host James Lipton serving as announcer, and players Lori Singer, Richard Sullivan, Ken Auletta, Mike Lupica, and Jim Leyritz. This year’s contest resulted in the Artists beating the Writers, 7-4. We are very grateful to Leif Hope and the organizers of this Hamptons tradition, for their loyal support over the years.
