It was inspiring to celebrate with so many friends and supporters at our 2011 Triumph for Teens Luncheon on May 13. We were honored to welcome Lee Ann and Alan White as luncheon Co-Chairpersons and the Honorable Jeb Bush, former Governor of Florida, as our featured keynote speaker. With over 700 generous attendees, the luncheon raised a record $1,058,250 for Phoenix Houses of Texas. These important funds will benefit Phoenix House’s adolescent residential treatment center, family therapy services, and prevention programs in Dallas.
Not only did this year’s Triumph for Teens Luncheon raise awareness and support for Phoenix House’s mission, it also honored community leaders who inspire young people to make positive life decisions. A special tribute to the youth advocacy achievements of Paul M. Bass, Jr., a true North Texas legend, brought tears to many eyes; we were thrilled to recognize Annette and Harold Simmons for their generous gift of $250,000 in memory of Mr. Bass.
“Paul understood that children are the future of our community; he was a relentless advocate in the fight against adolescent substance abuse,” says Co-Chair Alan White. “Paul’s dedication and passion was evident during his seven-year term as a Phoenix House Executive Board member, and he helped make the Phoenix House Feinberg Academy of Dallas the successful organization that it is today.”
We are grateful to the many generous donors who made this incredible achievement a reality. Special thanks go to the luncheon’s major donors and Phoenix House’s champions: Annette and Harold Simmons, Lee Ann and Alan White, PlainsCapital Corporation, Gene and Jerry Jones Family, Murray Media, Lupe Murchison Foundation, Boone Pickens Foundation, Betsy and Jim Sowell, and FirstSouthwest.
