Pop star Justin Bieber has been arrested for drunken driving, resisting arrest, and driving without a valid license. According to Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez, the 19-year-old star admitted that he’d been drinking, had smoked marijuana, and took prescription drugs before driving.
When Bieber was arrested, he was driving a yellow Lamborghini and allegedly drag racing a red Ferrari, driven by recording artist Khalil Sharieff, also 19 years old. According to police, Bieber failed a sobriety test and displayed a “flushed face, bloodshot eyes, and the odor of alcohol on his breath.” On Thursday morning, Bieber was released on a standard $2,500 bail. According to CNN, Bieber left the jail and “briefly sat on top of a black Cadillac Escalade, where he waved to screaming fans, before he was chauffeured away.”
Some reports say the star is hooked on prescription pills and sizzurp, a mixture of codeine, promethazine, and a sweet mixer like juice or Jolly Ranchers. In an article with the New York Daily News, Phoenix House Chief Medical Officer Andrew Kolodny noted that sizzurp drinkers sometimes turn to a mixture that contains hydrocodone syrup: “It’s impossible to know which one Beiber could have used, but they’re both dangerous, both addictive.”
