Behavioral Health Intervention and Support Services (BHIS)
Santa Ana, California
These prevention and intervention services help young people develop self-esteem with the cognitive, emotional, and social skills to overcome life’s challenges.
The Behavioral Health Intervention & Support Services program offers evidence-based prevention and intervention services to students in grades K-12 with the goal of increasing positive character attributes and decreasing negative behaviors among Orange County’s youth. Our multidisciplinary team is comprised of highly qualified school, mental health, and community outreach professionals.
The BHIS program serves students in elementary, middle, and high schools throughout Orange County. Our program utilizes Positive Action, an evidence-based curriculum that teaches and reinforces the intuitive philosophy that youth feel good about themselves when they act in healthy, positive ways. The program is funded by the Orange County Health Care Agency, Behavioral Health Services, Prevention and Intervention Division, Mental Health Service Act/Prop 63.
The program offers three levels of prevention and intervention services:
Classroom Prevention is offered in grades 5 or 6 through 9, via weekly 30-minute lessons. It addresses self-concept, peer-pressure, life skills, positive decision-making, kindness, and respect.
Student-Based Intervention addresses bullying, anger management, conflict resolution, drug prevention, and self-esteem via skills-based groups of 5-10 students. The student-based intervention is offered in 45-minute classes over 5 weeks.
Family Intervention is a 10-week family skills-building program intended to improve family communication, relationships, bonding, and connectedness.
